by Sharon
(HomeschoolBoys.com)

Teaching the Trivium by Harvey Bluedorn explains all three stages of the trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric).

Then the Bluedorns answer "how-to-do-it" questions they have received over the years, relating their experience with their own children.

Out of 9 reviews on Christian Book Distributors all 9 people gave this book a 5 star rating. Here are some of their comments:
--------------
There are chapters devoted to helping parents to use the Trivium with other methods such as Charlotte Mason as well as a discussion of some methods that do not fit well with the Trivium such as Unschooling. These chapters contain discussions and explanations of each method. This would be very valuable for those approaching educating their child for the first time as they investigate what method they will us.
--------------
Teaching the Trivium did not bring me complexity and stress but FREEDOM! It will nourish your tired researching soul.
--------------
Bluedorn Teaching the Trivium is 640 pages explaining the whys as well as the hows of educating your child Classically without compromising your Christian principles. You'll find schedules, courses of study, principles for teaching literature and much more. If you desire to raise Godly children who are able to teach themselves anything: to discover, to reason , to apply then this book is a must-read. Whether your sold on Classical Education or not youll find much to consider and apply.

I love Teaching the Trivium
by: Margarert

I read Teaching the Trivium shortly after reading - and being overwhelmed by - The Well-Trained Mind. Although I don't follow the Bluedorn's methods perfectly, I incorporate much of their philosophy in my own homeschool. I particularly like their "Ten Things To Do..." lists for various ages. Whenever a mom of young ones asks about homeschooling, I point her to this resource.

Now I am rereading the section on "The Understanding Level" - ages 13 - 15. Yes, I'm there already!

As has been my experience with just about every homeschooling book I've read, I dislike the suggested daily schedules. I rarely see one that allows enough free time for the child to pursue his own interests. Even teens need down time, time with friends, time for Scouts or other activities. Of course they are just suggestions, and each family has to decide how to schedule - or not - their days. But that's a pretty minor quibble.

All in all, Teaching the Trivium is a very useful and encouraging book.
