Books for Boys

As my youngest son and I read through children's literature selections... we'll add our recommended books to read to this list.

This is my last chance to read these favorite read aloud books to my youngest. Most were also read to my older set years ago when they were young. I hope you'll introduce these to your boys too.

Books I'm reading aloud to my youngest son.

School Year 2011-2012

My Father's Dragon An adorable tale of a young boys father who rescues a dragon from silly monkeys, gum chewing leopards and a lion with a wild mane.	Farmer Boy, Little House on the Prairie Series Classics all of them. We read through 4 of these books. When I suggested switching things up and reading something different, my youngest boy exclaimed "no more Laura and Mary??"	The Family Under the Bridge - by Natalie Savage Carlson Story of a young family with no home and a hobo dedicated to his free life on his own. How the "starlings" tame him and the gypsies teach a thing or two.

Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry Another Classic horse story. Ponies, the sea, a boy and girl at their grandfathers farm... great stuff.	The Boxcar Children - Gertrude Chandler Warner The first in a series of I think a zillion books about 4 orphaned children. My boy particularly loved the adventures the children had converting a boxcar into a little home, complete with a swimming pool.	White Stallion of Lipizza - by Marguerite Henry
Assassins in the Cathedral - Trail Blazers Book by Dave and Neta Jackson My 8 yo picked out this book as our next read aloud. This whole series are books dedicated to the stories of missionaries and martyrs I remember my now 15 yo devoured these books. Geared for 8 - 12 year olds. My 8 yo is not really ready to read these on his own but it is perfect recommended books to read.
